Emergency Homeless Shelter Program
“Whatsoever You Do For The Least Of My People,
You Do For Me” -Matthew 25: 35-40
St. Lawrence O’Toole Church has been a part of the Brewster Emergency Shelter Program (BESP) since it began eight years ago. BESP is an ecumenical coalition of neighboring churches that provide shelter for the homeless during the winter months from December through March. BESP is a non-profit organization that receives its funding from donations, fundraising and grants from Catholic Charities and other church based philanthropic groups. Our own Edge Christian Service team donated funds to assist in installing the new showers, washer/dryer and lockers in the old maintenance room.
One week a month St. Lawrence opens the Parish Center to provide meals and a warm, safe place to spend the night to those men, women and families who are homeless. Parish volunteers provide meals for the guests while other parish volunteers serve as overnight hosts and spend the night in the company of a paid supervisor.
For more information and/or volunteer to prepare meals or serve as an overnight
host please contact Cathy Quarenta: firstname.lastname@example.org.
